Lacquered Memories – Essie 209A Olé Caliente

by Deborah

After my last post about summer polishes, it’s only fitting to follow suit with a new installation of Lacquered Memories with a very sunny nail polish. Today Essie’s Olé Caliente, a polish that started my love for Essie.

Thinking about this polish, images of Spain pop into my mind. It’s so bright and sunny! It suits my skin colour well, and the orange-y red colour is one I haven’t come across very often.

The story behind this polish is that it was my first ever polish by the brand Essie. Back in the days I was studying in Groningen, there used to be a discount store at the Vismarkt. It was only there for less than a year, and was of the same type as the Korenbeurs one street away. I bought SO many make-up items here! Rimmel for €5 per ten items, Scholl gel inlays for €2, and more deals like that I definitely couldn’t pass on. One day, they had a fresh batch of new nail polish, including Essie!

There were only two colours: Olé Caliente and Lights. Of course I bought both, as it was a steal for €1 each (unopened!). Back in those days, Essie was a luxury I wasn’t able to afford. But this changed that! Coming from Catrice and Essence only (and without good base- and top coat), Essie was such a game changer for my manicures. This polish definitely started a newfound love for the brand, that would continue until this very day.
