Advent Day 24: Lancôme “Pop Petrol” + Delia “Mirage”

Day 24, which means it’s the last Advent day! Today I’m showing a new polish (at least to my collection) by Lancôme, topped with an oldie I once bought at the Wibra.

Lancôme “Pop Petrol” is a dark petrol blue colour with a lighter blue, almost slate, coloured shine to it. It’s beautifully opaque in two coats, and looks quite good on my nails.

Delia’s “Mirage” is a polish I once bought at the Dutch store Wibra when I studied in Groningen. It’s from their Coral Las Vegas collection, which includes a few textured polishes. This one is loaded with glitter in different sizes, colours, and shapes. It’s a fun one, but also rather gritty, which is something I personally dislike.

And this weird combination ends this years holiday season! I can’t say this is the smasher to end it, as it’s not a combination I’ll wear more often, but it’s still fun, plus it did broaden my horizon!

Advent Day 23: Only You “30 April 2013 Bye Bye Beatrix” + Catrice Million Styles C01 “No Smoke Without Fire”

From pastels to bright orange; today I’m showing you a very Dutch polish, topped with a topcoat I personally never used before. Let’s dive into it!

Only You’s “30 April 2013 Bye Bye Beatrix” is a polish to comemorate the change of throne in The Netherlands, from then Queen (now Princess) Beatrix to her son, King (then Prince) Willem-Alexander. It’s a Dutch orange polish, that I don’t wear a lot because I do not want to come off chauvinistic in my new country, haha! It’s a true orange cream that is opaque in two coats.

Catrice’s “No Smoke Without Fire” is a topcoat from the limited edition “Million Styles”. It’s basically a very sheer black, that creates a gradient when applied to another polish. In this case, I left the index finger without topcoat, the middle one with one layer, the ring finger with two layers, and the pinkie with three layers of this topcoat. It’s fun!

However, it does not level out that well, so it comes off somewhat grubby. Regardless of that, I think the topcoat is a fun addition, and one that does look interesting in a skittle.

Advent Day 22: Hema 832 + Sally Hansen 590 “Confetti Cake”

We’re staying in the pastel realm today with Hema 832, and a fun topper to finish the look, Sally Hansen’s 590 “Confetti Cake”.

Hema’s 832 is a pale lavender colour that is nearly opaque in two coats. I’ve noticed more often that Hema’s older polishes (pre the rebrand that happened a few years ago, that is) have the tendency to not be completely opaque, even when it’s a cream. In this case it’s somewhat streaky, but still absolutely wearable.

The confetti topcoat is one that I don’t wear that often. The colours are stunning, and I love the different shapes and sizes, but it’s just hard to combine. I do feel that the older I get, the more I tend to steer away from glitter topcoats, haha! Regardless, it’s afun topper with blue, silver, champagne, and purple hexagon glitter, as well as tiny purple glitter.

I like this combination! The base coat is somewhat elegant, and the topcoat makes it much more fun. Almost like a sprinkled ice cream in the summer!

Advent Day 21: Ciaté PP119 “Ferris Wheel”+ Essence 01 “Snowflakes Are Kisses Sent From Heaven”

From one Ciaté polish to another, but definitely more wintery today!

Ciaté’s “Ferris Wheel” is a pastel light blue, and one that does not want to be opaque, unfortunately. It’s best worn in two coats with a topper on top. It is, however, one of my favourite colours in my collection, especially during the winter. It reminds me of snow and ice skating rings.

This name always gets me: “Snowflakes Are Kisses Sent From Heaven”… Such a sad name for such a beautiful topcoat. It does indeed remind me of snowflakes, with the different sizes and shapes of white glitter, the bars amplifying the idea of snowflakes and their shapes. You can also see there are some metallic glitters in the mix.

Together this manicure makes me think of a cold winter’s day, walking through the icy cold while it’s snowing heavily. I love it! It’s soft, but accentuates my nails regardless. Very fitting for this time of year!

Advent Day 20: Ciaté PP136 “Pool Party” + Ciaté PP209 “Mosaic Madness”

The summery look streak isn’t over yet; today yet another combination that would be a proper summer manicure!

Ciaté’s “Pool Party” is an almost neon crelly nail polish, shown here in two coats. I love this one so much! It’s bright, fun, and its name is perfect for it! It’s also rather shiny, as shown here in these photos.

A mini bottle, but my love for this top coat is not minor at all! “Mosaic Madness” is a topper consisting of multiple coloured square glitter, both matte and shiny, and it compliments the base colour SO GOOD! It reminds me of mosaics I’ve seen in Southern Europe, as well as homes I tend to maken in The Sims.

This is one of the absolute winners this year. I love this combination, and I can see myself wearing this more often. It’s such a fresh, fun, summery combination!

Advent Day 19: Catrice C05 “Chromeo & Julia” + Catrice “Frosting”

Some fiery fun for the 19th day of this advent calendar!

Catrice Luxury Lacquers C05 Chromeo & Julia and Catrice Frosting nail polish

Catrice’s “Chromeo & Julia” was a nail polish from their LE Luxury Lacquers. It’s a stunning metallic orange with a golden shimmer to it, almost making it look duochrome in certain lights. I love it, but never really worn it before due to my skintone. I do have to admit I kind of like it on me!

Catrice’s “Frosting” is a semi-matte nail polish with a blue sheen to it. It’s stunning, although I prefer a shiny finish. It creates a fun look together with the base coat, it looks almost like a frozen over fire!

It’s an experimental combination, but one I absolutely love! It created a multidimensional colour combination, with a interesting finish. Not sure if I would wear this more often, as I usually prefer other combinations, but who knows?

Advent Day 18: Essie 526 “Social Lights” + Rimmel 247 “Opal”

Besides finding “new” gems in my collection, I also decided to experiment with already loved nail polishes in this challenge. Today is one of those!

Essie’s “Social Lights” is a gorgeous nail polish colour that I’ve worn often already. It’s a greige colour, with an orange shift to it. Stunning, and very lovely on its own.

Rimmel’s “Opal” was, I believe, made to be a nail polish on its own. However, it’s way too sheer for that, which you can see in the above pictures. It’s a beautiful polish, however, making the base colour shift with some blue shimmer.

Unfortunately, the orange shine does not come through at all after applying Rimmel’s polish on top. I like the combination, but would have preferred a bit more of a multichrome finish. Alas!

Advent Day 17: Hema 842 + Catrice C02 “Million Dollar Baby”

From spring to summer: today I’m showing you a nail polish combination that simply would look amazing during summer.

As you can see, I’ve worn Hema’s 842 quite often already. It’s a stunning green-leaning turquoise that is opaque in just two layers. It’s a bright, nearly neon colour, and one that I love wearing in summer.

Another often used nail polish, this time a topcoat. Shown is Catrice’s C02 “Million Dollar Baby” from their Million Styles collection. It consists of multiple sized, shiny, golden glitters.

It’s a fun combination, even though I’d never picked it myself if it wasn’t for this challenge. Both are polishes I’ve used often, but in different combinations. I guess I’ll keep using them, but not together, haha!

Advent Day 16: Essence 149 “Hello Marshmellow” + Essence 05 “See You In My Dreams”

For today I have yet again a spring combination for you, consisting of a lilac colour and complementing shimmer on top.

Essence’s “Hello Marshmallow” is a gorgeous light lavender or lilac colour, with a multitude of small shimmer. It’s a spring-y, subtle polish that I have worn often already. For reference: this is the old colour from the colour and go line, not the revamped colour that is more metallic.

“text”See You In My Dreams” was a polish from Essence’s 2015 advent calendar. It’s a fun topper consisting of a purpleish pink shimmer, that transforms all nail polishes used over. It goes really well with the base colour, and even makes it pop ever so slightly more.

I like this combination! I often don’t pick shimmer topcoats, as I prefer more bold ones, but this works really well.

Advent Day 15: Essie 42 “Angora Cardi” + Rimmel 020 “Midnight Mistletoe”

The Christmas spirit is strong in this cute combination of a mulled wine coloured base coat, and a festive topcoat on top!

Essie’s “Angora Cardi” looks to me like a mulled wine colour. I think it would be called marsala or deep dusty rose, but I love the creaminess to it! I don’t think I’ve ever worn this before, but it’s a stunner!

Rimmel’s “Midnight Mistletoe” is a fun festive top coat, consisting of green, red, gold and silver (holographic) hexagonal glitters. Unfortunately, the glitters bled a bit, resulting in a slightly pink base colour instead of a transparant one. However, it’s very cute and fits the advent theme!

Two unworn polishes (again), but that will not be the truth for the future! Both polishes are absolutely gorgeous, and combined they do seem to share the Christmas spirit. Nothing but love for this combination!
