Six weeks to Halloween yet, and seven weeks since I’ve started counting down to it! Today I’m playing around with some recently bought reflective glitter, to make a Halloween-y, yet still kind of elegant look by adding spiderwebs to a pale pink base.
This look is three coats of Essence’s Millenial Pink, a pale, cool-toned pink that was part of their Shine Last & Go line. For the base of the spiderwebs, I used Born Pretty’s Zeus’ Sword, a very holographic silver. For the loose glitter, I mixed it with Kiko’s 200, a transparent nail polish, and painted it on top of Zeus’ Sword. It’s chunkier than I’d like it to be, although these photos amplify the thickness of the lines.
As loose glitter has the tendency to dull with normal topcoat, I painted a coat of Sophi’s Shine Topcoat over them. This is a water-based topcoat, which does not dull any type of glitter or powder underneath. Big issue I’ve encountered, is that it is slightly yellow when it dries, as you can see in the images in this post. It made the polish look more salmon, whereas the colour on my middle finger is the true colour.
But I don’t mind it that much! In real life, it’s hardly noticeable; photos are definitely less forgiving, haha! For the accent nail, I went with two sizes of clear rhinestones. I topped all nails with a layer of Seche Vite.
The glitter looks just like any other silver glitter out there, but if you use a flash when taking pictures…
…BOOM! The reflective glitter in all its glory. I was kind of sceptical about the effect of reflective glitter, but seeing this, I can definitely say it absolutely does work! It also changed the colour of the silver glitter into a more white one, which I do kind of appreciate.
This is a very fun addition to my nail polish collection, and I love how easy it was to apply when mixed into some transparent nail polish. I bought a set of eight colours, and can’t wait to play with them!
